Photographers are beginning to use Blogs to promote their professional life. In some respects it is unfortunate that this great web based personal data base is called a BLOG! Some photographers are moving away from calling them blogs and experiment with links called NEWS. The trend in the industry is that the static web site is not as important in attracting new business and keeping new clients as the dynamic web BLOG.
This is an assignment for Mr. Schmidt’s students in the photography area at UCM. Each student will be required to complete a professional photography blog as part of their class.
Here is what will be requires for a completed project:
- All blogs will be produced on wordpress so that we can share our discoveries about professional blogs.
- Each student should select a theme that allows for a custom header.
- A custom header will be developed in photoshop to fit the selected theme. The theme will let you know what size the file needs to be as you see in the screen grab below. My blog requires a custom header of 730 wide by 180 tall. To make a custom header for my blog I will need to make a new document in photoshop to be that pixel dimension.
- All blogs will contain a Blogroll including all the students in the class as well as 5 links to professional photography web sites. The links or blogroll may not be visible in your theme so you will have to click on presentation and go to widgits and add them to your sidebar. You may want to add other content including blogstats, music, Flickr and a calender.

- Posts and Pges are different!! The posts will always be kept showing the last entry first and as you add posts the content moves down the page. Pages are sttic and will always be available in your PAGE navagation. It may take some experimentation to see
- Students will post for each shooting assignment with a minimum of 5 images content.
- Each post should be assigned a Catagorie to help organize your content.
- Tags should be included for each post, all post will include UCM, photographic education, photography, and your name as a tag. You will see how the use of tags will connect you with others posting about similar topics.
- Each blog will include several pages that will include: 1. About, 2. Portfolio, 3. Resume.
- Each blog will contain a minimum of two slide shows created at Slide.com and inserted in a post or on a page.
- Develop Catagories for your post as this will serve to organize your efforts over time.
- Digital portfolio students should post a link to their web site on their BlogRoll or links page.
- Lets get started!!
